In this part we're looking at the major cause why Amazon.com has closed our affiliate accounts, which is the purchase of a massive amounts of text books through our affiliate links by an unknown third party. Amazon.com claims that this was done for commercial purposes or resale, which violates their terms and conditions. We'll also look at the reason why Amazon.com assumes the right to ban affiliates even if they have not violated the agreement.

My lawyer first sent a demand for arbitration to Amazon.com in September 2017. Yet the hearing took place eight months later, in May 2018. So there was an immense delay until this finally took up speed, after a very long waiting period. Amazon.com did everything to avoid for the hearing to take place, and ignored their own operating agreement for the procedure of triggering the arbitration process.

So Amazon has closed some of our affiliate accounts. But what's the significance? What's an affiliate account anyway? The Amazon affiliate program is for bloggers and website owners to monetize their sites. They place links to Amazon, and receive up to 10% in commission for every purchase in return.

How many small businesses can boast to have had a legal dispute with the largest online retailer globally? More than we would initially think, I dare say. This is the first post in a new blog series about our own story with Amazon.com after they closed our affiliate account and withheld about $8,000 of outstanding payments from us. Instead of just accepting the loss, we decided to fight, hired an attorney, and sued Amazon.com at a commercial arbitration tribunal.
